Meeting Minutes

4:30 pm

In Attendance:  Bonnie Weiss, Shirley Walker, Tom Watkins

Introduction
The group introduced themselves to all in attendance.  Agenda was handed out.  Bonnie Mentioned inviting the Mayor to a meeting and also inviting clergy members.  Tom and Shirley discussed moving the time of the meeting to approximately 5:30 pm to see if we could get a more steady attendance.  Tom will email the group regarding the time.  Tom and Shirley updated Bonnie with happenings from previous meeting.

Discuss about Next Meeting Location
Bonnie suggested having the next meeting at a Point location with the Mayor there.  Also suggested to invite members of Tolerance Committee of NSCC, clergy, maybe do a Turkey Raffle.  The group discussed the possibility of getting a Spanish/Latino restaurant to provide some food.  The group would like to get someone of Hispanic descent to take the lead on this.  The event could also take place at the Charter School.

Bonnie would to the Mayor to go down to talk to residents of the Point.  Ideally, it’d be nice to get all critical people there, the Fire and Police Chiefs, Superintendent of Schools, Salem Harbor CDC, the Mayor, Clergy and NPFH can act as facilitators.  Shirley would like to get the landlords involved.

Upcoming Events
The goal is to instill pride back into the neighborhood.  Bonnie would like to see the Latino Festival return.  The City of New York organized a “Carnival” to represent Latino heritage.  “Facing History in Ourselves” is an organization in Brookline, along with the Holocaust Society in Peabody.  Suggested speaking with a contact at Cinema Salem to talk about the International Film Festival coming up in February.

Meeting adjourned at 5:30 pm.
